Tezuka funde al azúcar a 90°C y forma una bola de azúcar con un palito, similar a un chupachups, tiene unos 5 minutos para trabajar antes de que se solidifique, así que empieza a tirar con maestría del caramelo mientras es moldeable y consigue todo tipo de dulces figurillas; ranas, peces, ositos... que termina pintándolos con algún colorante comestible.
